Lafarge is committed to strengthening our relationship with the community in Exshaw, and our latest efforts will further this goal. The Exshaw cement plant recently introduced a wind fence near the quarry on site.

After 5 years of lab simulations, environmental studies, economics and logistics reviews, and community engagement, Lafarge Exshaw’s Low Carbon Fuels Project has broken ground.

These organizations work closely with people and groups in the Bow Valley and consistently exhibit a commitment to community building, social consciousness, and offering supportive resources to people in need.

Lafarge’s Lower Carbon Fuels Project was awarded $10 million in funding from Emissions Reduction Alberta’s Industrial Efficiency Challenge.

Lafarge is assessing the technical and economic feasibility of carbon capture utilization and storage (CCUS) at the Exshaw Cement Plant.

To increase the use of renewable energy sources in the cement manufacturing process, Lafarge recently entered into a purchase power agreement (PPA) with TransAlta.

With help from community volunteers, Lafarge has started planting native plants, shrubs and trees along Exshaw Creek to restore the natural ecosystem and complement the recently completed flood mitigation work.
