Environment

Environmental protection is at the heart of Lafarge Canada’s operations.

We are committed to becoming a net-zero company. Our teams are consistently developing ways to decarbonize building materials through targeted innovations and improvements.

Our focus on developing sustainable building solutions is one way we are contributing a circular economy’s goal. From recycling concrete to using low carbon fuels, we are continually making changes and adjusting how we manufacture to help achieve these goals and protect our planet.

Here are just a few things happening at the Exshaw plant to support our net zero goals:

  • The Exshaw plant intends to replace natural gas from fossil fuels with low carbon fuels to 80% within the next decade. Learn more.

  • Low carbon fuels like wood waste, plastic and/or roofing shingles are incorporated into our manufacturing process, keeping them out of landfills.

  • 40-50% of energy demands are powered by wind through TransAlta power purchase agreement.
