Lafarge will be cutting down trees from February 24 to 28 for the Back Mountain Project. The work will be done by chainsaws because the location is too steep for logging equipment. The area to be cleared is approximately 1.5 hectares. Lafarge is conducting this work in advance of nesting season for migratory birds, which starts April 1.
In April, Lafarge will begin the development of the new quarry access road. This work will require an excavator to remove fallen trees and stumps from the slope. We are currently exploring options to provide the fallen trees as firewood to residents for personal use and will update the community on those logistics when they are known.
